Garage door hardware or garage door hinges as some people call them call last and should last a minimum of 25 years if your hardware hasn’t lasted this long its because you either have to heavy of a garage door for the weight capability of your hardware or you over use the garage door and don’t properly lubricate the garage door hardware/ hinge. Most residential hardware for a single car garage door ( 1 car garage ) is rated at 250lb.Most residential hardware for a double car garage door ( 2 car garage ) is rated at 350lb. You can install even heaver duty hardware that would be rated for up to 550lb. This would be use on very heavy residential garage doors or commercial overhead gates for apartments or condominiums.

All moving parts for Garage door hardware and hinges should be lubricated once a month with a quality oil in most cases you do not ever want to use a grease. You need the oil to get down into the joint to give that lubrication value. Grease will not get inside the joint and will only sit on the surface and block any future oil from getting in. A 20 or 30 weight motor oil is best if that’s not available use WD-40 or any silicon oil spray is a lighter oil so you may need to use it more often

Garage door repairs can be a tricky and dangerous operation if you don't know what you're doing. There are extremely powerful springs that counter balance the weight of the garage door. On sectional garage doors the springs are connected through a torsion bar to cables. The cables can be very dangerous if they should ever brake or fly off. The springs for a sectional garage door are called torsion springs most garage door companies don't sell these springs over the counter because of the danger to a home owner installing them there selves. One piece garage door springs are easier to install but you shpuld always have 2 to 3 people there to help you if you choose to repair these springs yourself. Saftey first the hospital bill will cost you much much more than a bill I would give you.
